Prof. Dr. Alexey G. Tkachev was born in Tambov on September 15, 1951. In 1973, he graduated from Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering (Moscow, Russia) and received his Diploma in the special field “Machinery & Equipment for Chemical Plants”. In 1979, he defended his Ph.D. thesis in Engineering at that institute. In 2008, he successfully defended his D.Sc. thesis in the special fields “Machinery, Devices & Processes for Chemical Plants” and “Processes & Devices for Chemical Technologies” at Tambov State Technical University (TSTU, Tambov, Russia).

Since 1980, Dr. Tkachev has been working at TSTU. During this time, he was progressively promoted from assistant lecturer to full professor. Besides, he held the Dean’s position at the Faculty of Engineering. Since 2003 till present, he is the Head of the Department of Technologies and Methods of Nanoproducts Manufacturing, which is not only a graduating but also a research entity offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the following fields: “Technological Machines & Equipment, Nanoengineering”, “Innovation”, and “Nanotechnologies & Micromachining”, as well as Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees in the fields such as “Machinery, Devices and Industrial Processes”, “Processes & Devices of Chemical Technologies”, and “Nanotechnologies & Nanomaterials in Industries”. The infrastructure of that department additionally includes the Research and Education Center of TSTU in the field of nanotechnologies at the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Chernogolovka, Moscow Region, Russia); Center for Collective Use of Unique Scientific Equipment in the field of fabrication and application of multifunctional nanomaterials (Tambov, Russia); Basic Department of Nanotechnology Engineering at Artemov “Komsomolets” Plant LLC (Tambov, Russia); and four small innovative companies headed by some of Tkachev’s disciples.

Based on the results of his research and development activities, Dr. Tkachev published more than 400 works including 5 monographs. Besides, he has more than 100 author’s certificates, patents, and certificates for computer programs.

Prof. Dr. Tkachev is a founder and head of the Tambov Scientific School in the field of scientific and methodological bases of creation of high technologies and innovative equipment for producing nanoproducts.

The scientific and technical achievements of Dr. Tkachev and his disciples have been repeatedly exhibited at various exhibitions, symposia and congresses and have gained recognition both in Russia and abroad.

In 2009, Dr. Tkachev was awarded the Badge of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation “The Honorary Employee of Higher Professional Education” for his longstanding and fruitful work in the development and improvement of the educational process, vigorous research activities, and significant contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists.
